About Scientific Me

Introduction:  In this assignment, I was asked to briefly introduce myself, what education program I am in, and explain whatever I think makes me unique.  This is the assignment were I will store and sort my materials that best represent me as a developing professional.  So far, my portfolio includes the artifacts that I created for the Science Methods for Childhood course here at Mount Saint Mary College.  This assignment provided below will demonstrate my talents and skills, abilities and competences outlined in the INTASC and ACEI standards.

Reflect: I thought this was a great assignment to start off the semester.  It was a nice way for Dr. Smirnova to get to know us, through both science and personally.  I thought it was great for us the think back on all of our memorable moments throughout our own science experiences.  After completing this assignment, I have realized what worked and what did not work as my past teachers attempted to make science enjoyable.  Through this assignment, I have learned the importance of motivating students in the subject of science so they do not get discouraged, as I had gotten.  Also, I have learned that my peers had learned close the the same things I have learned from this assignment.  My peers from this class and I shared what we wrote about during this assignment and we realized we all had similar responses to how we became unmotivated about learning science. the experience and learning from the assignment.  In this assignment, I took note of the importance to make documents appealing to the eye so students do not get side-tracked while working on boring and plain worksheets.  This has aided in my professional development.  After noting this, I decided to enhance my Professional Development through attending both the Beginner and Intermediate SmartBoard Seminars hosted by Kappa Delta Pi, the Mount's Education Honor Society. --- what you learned about yourself, your peers, and the projects for the beginning of the year.

Here are a few of the Professional Development programs I have attended.  I attended two SmartBoard seminars where I learned at the beginner and intermediate level about the usage, tricks, tips, and tools of the SmartBoard.  I also attended a Literacy Conference with Professor Ruff where I learned various ways to incorparate Language Arts techniques into any content area.

I have also joined the Professional Organization, The International Reading Association! I have not recieved my membership card yet. I do have my KDP membership card, however.

Along with the Professional Development, I have also added the certificates for being a candidate and inducted into the Education Honors program, Kappa Delta Pi Sigma Tau Chapter 451 of Mount Saint Mary College.  I was elected to be the Historian Officer of this Chapter where I will be expected to take pictures of all of the events and keep track of our chapter's history.
